Par Out Golf is not all just fun and games. Believe it or not, there are true physiological benefits to hitting the Par Out links. Skeptical? Let McCaddy educate you on the terms kinesiology and proprioception to help explain. Kinesiology is the study of human motion and muscle movement. With every stroke of the Par Out pen, you are moving and manipulating your fingers, while strengthening your hand-brain coordination. It’s kinefantastic! (Mothers of young ones take note: this is also for enhancing those pre-writing skills.)
Proprioception requires a bit more explaining. Proprioception is an often overlooked sense that unconsciously considers the orientation and movement of a person’s limbs in relation to the outside world. Huh? Let me explain. Simply put, proprioception allows your central nervous system to automatically fill in the informational gaps during and between body movements so you don’t have to consciously consider each and every one. Still confused?
Consider this: if your proprioceptive ability was damaged or non-existent, the things you do everyday, including golf if you are so lucky, would likely be impossible. You couldn’t drive a golf cart, for example, because you’d be so busy concentrating on the motion of your foot on the gas pedal and your hands on the steering wheel that you wouldn’t be able to keep track of where you were going. You couldn’t hit a decent shot either, because you wouldn’t be able to keep your focus on the ball. You would need to constantly watch your arms, hands and fingers, and make dozens of conscious decision about everything from where to end your back swing, to how hard to grip the club.
With Par Out Golf, or any activity involving the movement of our arms or legs with precision without looking, the proprioceptive sense is stimulated and trained. Art schools use this concept when students are asked to draw a subject in front of them without ever looking at the paper. By stimulating this sense, a person’s proprioceptive ability can be enhanced, strengthened and trained to be more responsive and accurate. Par Out Golf is a positive workout for an incredibly important but often forgotten sense in the human body. So close your eyes and get back to work!
